Why we care

We care because we care for women in Indonesia. We care about research and database decision-making processes and advocacy. Jurnal Perempuan (The Indonesian Feminist Journal) is recognized by the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) as a peer-reviewed and nationally accredited journal. Jurnal Perempuan is the first and only feminist journal in Indonesia with recognition from LIPI and is available in the Open Journal System in English. Jurnal Perempuan has supported feminist scholars to publish their work and research on gender issues in Indonesia since 1996. More than 300 female scholars have published their articles in Jurnal Perempuan, and more than 100 women have published their short stories and poems in the journal. Jurnal Perempuan has published more than 100 editions. You can  access the research and articles here

Jurnal Perempuan's research is extensively used for training in NGOs, institutions, and community organizations. Using research-based knowledge, Jurnal Perempuan campaigns about gender issues in Indonesia, and partners with many organizations working on trafficking of women and children, sexual harassment, violence against women, LGBTQ issues, and women’s reproductive justice. 

Who we are

We are the International Friends of Jurnal Perempuan (IFJP). We live in all parts of the world, are originally from Indonesia, or have lived in Indonesia. We are women and men who have worked in Indonesia professionally or are interested in Indonesia. We are volunteers who support Jurnal Perempuan in its work; to make sure that the journal continues to advocate, educate, and publish research on gender issues in Indonesia. We want to reach out to our international friends to join us in building a gender equitable world. We need your support!

Jurnal Perempuan (The Indonesian Feminist Journal) is a triannual interdisciplinary scientific journal focusing on gender studies, which is published in English and Bahasa Indonesia. Jurnal Perempuan invites critical reflection on the theory and practice of feminism in Indonesia's social, political, and economic contexts. Jurnal Perempuan is committed to exploring gender with an intersectional lens. The journal encourages lived experience perspectives, theoretically sound analysis, and a focus on real-world implications of gender inequity in Indonesian contexts. Topics related to feminism can include (but are not limited to): sexuality, trafficking, public policy, sustainability, social development, labor rights/issues, accountability and transparency in governance, poverty, globalization, and feminist ethics. Jurnal Perempuan is the first feminist journal in Indonesia, and was founded in 1996 by Yayasan Jurnal Perempuan.
